Academic Procrastination: A Cultural Perspective from Aceh, Counseling and Guidance Students.Abstract
Academic procrastination is the behaviour of consciously delaying tasks, leading to late submission of work at SMPN 2 Ranah Batahan. This phenomenon is characterised by students’ tendency to cheat, submit work late, and prioritise using social media due to a lack of self-management. This study focuses on the importance of time management, interpersonal relationships, and self-perception. The objectives of this study are: (1) to describe the level of self-management among students; (2) to describe the level of academic procrastination among students; and (3) to determine the relationship between self-management and academic procrastination among students. This study employed a quantitative descriptive research method using simple linear regression analysis. The study population comprised 122 Year 7 pupils at SMPN 2 Ranah Batahan. Sampling was conducted using simple random sampling, resulting in a sample of 61 respondents. The research findings indicate that: 1) students’ self-management falls within the ‘fairly high’ category; 2) academic procrastination falls within the ‘fairly high’ category; 3) the regression test results demonstrate a significant influence of self-management on academic procrastination of 0.233 per cent, thereby supporting the alternative hypothesis (Ha), whilst the remaining 76.7 per cent is influenced by other factors. It can be concluded that the results of the simple linear regression analysis show that self-management has a significant effect on students’ academic procrastination with a coefficient of determination of 23.3 per cent, and therefore the research hypothesis is accepted.
