Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of digital media in political communication in Indonesia through the case of the #IndonesiaGelap 2025 movement and public debates surrounding Makan Bergizi Gratis Program (MBG) during the Prabowo–Gibran administration. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using digital observation and document analysis of social media platforms, online news reports, and relevant supporting documents. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source triangulation to enhance validity. The findings reveal that digital media functions as a digital public sphere that expands political participation, facilitates public opinion mobilization, and serves as a space for policy deliberation. The #IndonesiaGelap movement reflects the characteristics of connective action in digital political mobilization, while discussions on MBG demonstrate active public engagement in monitoring government policies. However, digital spaces are also characterized by political polarization, the spread of disinformation, and declining communication ethics. The study concludes that digital media plays a strategic role in democracy but requires stronger digital literacy and communication ethics to support a healthy democratic environment in Indonesia.
