Abstract

The understanding of Arabic texts is vital in Islamic education, especially in facing global challenges and the spread of digital misinformation. However, the lack of teaching materials that integrate Islamic moderation values remains a significant issue, leading to students' slow comprehension of Arabic texts. This study aims to develop Arabic reading materials based on Islamic moderation values (wasathiyyah) through a Research and Development (R&D) approach modified from the Borg and Gall model. The materials are designed for Arabic Language Education students at IAIN Kudus and focus on contextualizing qirā’ah learning with moderate Islamic values such as justice, balance, and tolerance. The development process involved needs analysis, expert validation, trials, and revisions based on feedback. Results showed that the developed teaching materials were both academically feasible and received positive responses from students and experts, highlighting their potential to foster moderate religious understanding. The study contributes to the development of thematic, value-based teaching materials and offers an alternative approach to Arabic language education that emphasizes inclusivity and tolerance in Islamic teachings.
