Pain is one of the most common complaints encountered in primary healthcare services and requires appropriate analgesic selection to ensure effective and safe pain management. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between pain intensity and the appropriateness of non-opioid analgesic selection among outpatients at Ngaibor Primary Health Center. A quantitative study with an analytical observational cross-sectional design was conducted. A total of 105 patients were recruited using purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), while the appropriateness of analgesic selection was evaluated based on the suitability of indication, drug type, dosage, and patient condition according to treatment guidelines. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents experienced moderate pain, NSAIDs were the most frequently prescribed analgesics, and the majority of prescriptions were categorized as appropriate. Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between pain intensity and the appropriateness of non-opioid analgesic selection. These findings indicate that accurate pain assessment plays an essential role in supporting rational analgesic selection, thereby improving service quality and patient safety in primary healthcare settings.
