Dampak Ekonomi dan Tinjauan Maqashid Syariah Terhadap Pemanfaatan Kratom Sebagai Sumber Pendapatan Masyarakat di Kabupaten Kapuas Hulu Provinsi Kalimantan Barat

Abstrak

This study aims to analyze the economic impact and utilization of kratom (*Mitragyna speciosa*) as a primary source of income for communities in Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan, through the perspective of *Maqashid Syariah* (the objectives of Sharia). Employing a qualitative approach with field research methods, data were collected via in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving local farmers, traders, and religious scholars. Economic findings indicate that kratom cultivation significantly boosts household income, alleviates local poverty, and drives regional economic growth. However, this cultivation operates within a legal gray area and poses potential health risks due to the plant's psychoactive properties. From the perspective of *Maqashid Syariah*, kratom utilization presents a complex tension between preserving wealth (*hifz al-mal*) through economic empowerment and safeguarding the intellect (*hifz al-aql*) or life (*hifz al-nafs*) given the risks of addiction and exposure. The study concludes that while direct economic benefits are substantial, long-term viability and Sharia compliance require strict government regulation, standardized processing, and prudent management. This research offers a balanced framework for policymakers to formulate regulations that protect community welfare without compromising public health or Islamic ethical standards.
