Pengaruh Self Esteem terhadap Forgiveness pada Remaja Akhir yang Mengalami Putus Cinta di Karawang

Late adolescence is a developmental phase characterized by increased emotional involvement in romantic relationships. At this stage, romantic relationships often become a source of happiness as well as psychological vulnerability. When such relationships end, many late adolescents experience emotional distress such as deep sadness, disappointment, anger, and feelings of blaming themselves or others. This study aims to determine whether self esteem influences forgiveness in late adolescents who have experienced a romantic breakup. Forgiveness is an effort to reduce negative emotions such as the desire for revenge and the tendency to avoid others, while also encouraging the intention to repair and reestablish relationships in a peaceful manner. This study employed a quantitative method with a causal research design. The sample consisted of 204 late adolescents aged 19–21 years from Karawang Regency. Data were collected using two scales: the Transgression-Related Interpersonal Motivations (TRIM) Inventory developed by McCullough, which has been adapted into Indonesian, and the Rosenberg self esteem Scale (RSES), also adapted into Indonesian. The results of the regression analysis showed that self esteem has a significant effect on forgiveness, with self esteem positively and significantly influencing forgiveness and contributing 24.7% to the variance. This means that late adolescents who have experienced a breakup and possess high levels of positive self esteem are more capable of exhibiting forgiveness.
