Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of productive zakat management on community economic empowerment at the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) of Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, identify the implementation of coaching and mentoring, and examine changes in the economic conditions and self-reliance of mustahik after receiving productive zakat assistance. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving BAZNAS Karanganyar and mustahik who received productive zakat assistance during the January–March 2026 period. The analysis focused on the processes of mustahik identification, assistance distribution, coaching, mentoring, monitoring, evaluation, and changes in business performance and income. The findings indicate that productive zakat management at BAZNAS Karanganyar is implemented through relatively systematic stages, beginning with mustahik identification and verification, followed by productive assistance and business mentoring. One of the empowerment initiatives is the Karanganyar Makmur Program, which is targeted at poor and needy mustahik. Productive assistance in the form of business equipment and supporting facilities has had a positive impact on the development of some mustahik businesses, as reflected in increased turnover, net profit, production capacity, and the ability to meet household needs. Based on data from mustahik, total monthly net profit increased from IDR 11,750,000 to IDR 19,350,000, representing an increase of IDR 7,600,000 (64.68%). However, the impact was not uniform among all beneficiaries because it was influenced by business type, managerial capacity, market conditions, and the intensity of mentoring. The study concludes that productive zakat has a positive impact on the economic empowerment of mustahik, although stronger mentoring, monitoring, evaluation, and needs-based assistance are required to improve program effectiveness and sustainability.
