Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have transformed the way university students access, process, and distribute information. On the other hand, the high flow of digital information has also increased the risk of spreading hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation that could potentially affect the quality of learning and academic integrity. This community service activity aims to strengthen students' digital literacy through training in distinguishing reality from disinformation in the era of modern education. The activity was conducted at the invitation of the Student Association of the Islamic Education Management Study Program (HMPS MPI) at Ummul Quro Al-Islami University, involving 60 students from various study programs and universities. The implementation method used a participatory approach comprising the stages of preparation, pre-test, material delivery, interactive discussion, AI-assisted fact-checking practice, post-test, and reflection. The results of the activity show that the training was able to improve participants' understanding of digital literacy as a multidimensional competency, strengthen their ability to differentiate between hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation, and build awareness that AI is a tool (assistant) in the process of information verification, rather than the determinant of truth. In addition, participants demonstrated a better understanding of the importance of critical thinking, a culture of information verification (digital tabayyun), and academic integrity in building a healthy digital ecosystem. This community service activity confirms that strengthening digital literacy based on the use of AI and fact-checking is a relevant strategy for shaping students into critical, responsible, and adaptive digital citizens in facing the challenges of information in the era of modern education.
